Position Summary:
A member of the Rehab Services staff, under direct supervision, who assists in the delivery of therapeutic interventions to all assigned patients.
The Rehab Aide position can be divided into three positions depending upon the number of skill sets acquired.
Aide 1 - would have basic skills and demonstrate competency with one skill set.
Aide 2 - would have basic skills and demonstrate competency with two skill sets.
Aide 3 - would have basic skills and demonstrate competency in all three skill sets.
The identified skill sets are further clarified in the next section of the job description.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Anticipates patient/famil! y needs and assists with exceeding customer expectations in meeting needs.
Contributes to the quality improvement plan of the department.
Maintains clean and orderly environment, including changing linens and cleaning mats/ equipment. Opens and shuts down selected clinic areas daily.
Maintains inventory and orders supplies appropriately and judiciously.
Monitors equipment for safety and cleanliness and reports or arranges for needed repairs.
IDENTIFIED SKILL SETS:
Inpatient Rehab Aide specific duties include the following:
Assists with the delivery of therapeutic interventions under direct supervision.
Transports patients to and from therapy areas. Must be able to transfer patient from bed or mat to cart or wheelchair and manage lines / tubes.
Orders /stocks linen.
Manages supply/stocking of documentation forms.
Operates vital signs monitor.
Provides general maint! enance for modality equipment - fluidotherapy, TENS/NMES units, hydrocollator, refrigerator and oven.
Monitors/records refrigerator and hydrocollator temperatures.
Provides, after therapist direction, wheelchairs and necessary cushions for patients.
Provides maintenance care programs and documents services provided.
Prepares hydrotherapy tanks and cleans post use.
Manages oxygen supplies for department
Delivers therapy notes / documentation to patient charts
Provides simple crutch training and education for one day surgery patients.
Performs special projects as assigned.
Outpatient Rehab Aide specific duties include the following:
Provides modalities within the restrictions / supervision requirements of specific competency, such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound, iontophoresis, and removing mechanical traction.
Provides general maintenance for modality equipment -fluidot! herapy, paraffin, heat pan.
Monitors patients on exercise equi! pment, when asked.
Is competent with computer programs for scheduling and home programs.
Assists therapists with patient chart management, i.e., filing.
Monitors/cleans/organizes patient waiting room.
Performs special projects as assigned.
Office Assistant Rehab Aide specific duties include the following (note: these duties are not utilized at VCH-P):
Assists with computerized patient scheduling.
Enters patient charges.
Answers phones.
Faxes documents.
Copies documents.
Files documents.
Handles reception of patients.
Registers patients.
Prepares patient charts.
Dismantles patient charts.
Performs special projects as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide! with 10âs and 100âs. Ability to perform these operations using uni! ts of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer skills with specific abilities in word processing and\or spreadsheet applications.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
CPR certification is required within 60 days of hire date. or Restorative
Aide certification is preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers offered by the American Heart Association or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer offered by the Red Cross received within 30 days from date of hire. (VCH-P)
