Position Summary: Position is responsible for a classroom and for the caring and educational development of young children.
Responsible for the on-going implementation of the CDC program within assigned classrooms. Works closely with the Director and Manager to ensure daily activities/curriculum are presented as planned. This position supports the management team members. Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions: Attends workshops and/or other approved in-services within or outside the department as required by Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) licensing, Via Christi Hospitals-Wichit! a and the Director of the CDC.
Responsible for mainta! ining children's files to meet KDHE requirements, submitting reports as requested by Director of CDC and assisting in holding the financial budget to target. Possesses a working knowledge of the KDHE regulations as demonstrated through daily compliance along with the Via Christi Hospitals-Wichita policies. Develops and executes weekly lesson plans that meet the developmental needs and stimulate additional social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth of the children in their unit. Provides for diversity and multi-cultural awareness.
Conducts assessments on children in the areas of cognitive, motor, social and emotional development using the instruments provided in the department. Conducts conferences with parents through different mediums depending upon the age of the child. Maintains developmental records of children and keeps anecdotal notes in preparation for parent conferences. Serves as a role model for young children's language development by using appr! opriate grammar and language.
Recognizes and provides for individual and group differences. Responsible for initiating division of tasks between Teachers and Teacher Assistants, remembering that all individuals are responsible for all tasks. Maintains the ordered arrangement, appearance, decor, and learning environment of the classroom while allowing for the expressive and creative involvement and interaction of children. Ensures that the room arrangement and supervised play areas are safe and providesinformation on appropriate issues; such as ratios, parent concerns, to management.
May perform other duties as assigned or requested Management Responsibilities: This position has no management responsibilities. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications: Education and/or Experience Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent in Child Development or related early education field from two-year college or technical school and one year of teaching experience with young child! ren; OR Child Development Associate (CDA) credential plus five years of! related teaching experience. Communicates with parents and staff in a professional manner at all times. Informs parents of daily happenings and significant changes, behaviors or progress their child has experienced. Interacts with children in a warm, loving, caring manner as evidenced by tone and volume of voice, and appropriate physical interaction with children. Technical Skills Able to utilize the intranet and Microsoft Outlook.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Must maintain annual in-service requirements, which requires 10 hours of in-services per licensing year. Must meet KDHE requirements within 30 days of employment. 2 clock hours of training in recognizing the signs of Child Abuse or Neglect to include the pre! vention of abusive head trauma and the reporting of abuse 2 clock hours of training in Basic Child Development 2 clock hours of safe sleep practice and SIDS training for employees in infant rooms only Pediatric First Aid and Pediatric CPR Current Food Handler's Card for Wichita required within 30 days of employment. ! Frequently performs activities that require reaching with hands and ar! ms, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling throughout the day. Constantly able to communicate verbally and in written form. Frequently able to detect and discern both loud and soft sounds such as child voices and phone calls. Frequently able to use all types of vision.
Occasionally required to detect unusual odors that could indicate problems with children or environmental issues. Working Conditions: The work environment consists of an indoor classroom setting with occasional exposure to outside elements, such as weather conditions, when CDC children engage in outdoor activities. Occasional local travel is required for field trips. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
