Phlebotomist II PRN( Job Number: 00323-10834) Work Location: United States-Kansas-Wichita-Wesley Medical Center Schedule: PRN/Per Diem Description Under supervision, the Phlebotomist II performs skillful! phlebotomy on patients of all ages, utilizing knowledge of age related factors, specimen requirements, specimen volume, aseptic technique and universal precautions. This position trains new employees in phlebotomy techniques. Obtains blood of sufficient quantity and quality from adult and pediatric patients utilizing proper phlebotomy and identification techniques including venipuncture, heel, toe or finger sticks Obtains blood of sufficient quantity and quality from neonatal patients, utilizing proper phlebotomy and identification techniques for neonates Utilizes good customer relations and communication skills in performing phlebotomy, answering the phone, and interacting with patients, their families, department members and hospital staff to ensure high customer satisfaction Processes specimens brought to the laboratory and delivers the specimens to the correct section for testing; utilizes the laboratory computer system to process and track specimens to ensure efficien! t pre-analytic specimen processing Obtains cultures for Microb! iology and Virology, using aseptic technique and a knowledge of anatomy to select the proper site and obtain accurate results Utilizes universal precautions and knowledge of more restrictive isolation procedures when procuring, transporting and processing specimens to ensure patient and employee safety Effectively trains new employees in proper collection techniques and proper processing of samples to ensure development of a well-trained competent staff Participates in the improvement of operational functions of the department Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of care and practices identifying opportunities for improvement through collaboration Performs lab testing of the moderately complex or less category under supervision after documented training for the specific test procedure Orders lab tests and admits patients to computer system, determining which form to use based on type of insurance to ensure that the correct test is performed and charged Qua! lifications Required Registration, Licensure or Certification Current driver`s license Preferred Registration, Licensure or Certification Current Basic Life Support verification course, as specified in policy Required Education or Experience High school diploma or equivalent, as required by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) Successful completion of all clinical competency requirements
