The Charge RN cares for a select group of patients while coordinating patient care and staffing throughout the hospital. On night shift, the Charge RN also assists pharmacy and central supply by obtaining needed items when ! these departments are closed.The Charge Registered Nurse coordinates the patient care provided to a selected group of patients during a given shift just as the staff registered nurse does, however, patient care assignments may be adjusted to take into account the Charge RN's other job responsibilities. The RN identifies specific patient care needs and prescribes interventions to meet the patient's expected outcomes. In addition, the RN assures that all physician orders are followed or communicates with the physician regarding any need for change inorders. Interventions are accomplished by the RN directly or through delegation to team members. The RN is expected to continually evaluate the patient's progress towards the expected outcomes and to make changes in the plan of care/critical path as needed. Effective communication with team members is essential.The Charge RN acts as a role model for the rest of the staff by having exceptional customer service skills and an outstan! dingly clean, neat, professional, personal appearance. The Cha! rge RN is a resource person or other staff members regarding clinical skills and problem solving. She/he makes adjustments to staffing based upon patient acuity and budgeted parameters andkeeps the Inpatient Director informed of Unit operations. The Charge RN also assists with staff evaluations and education as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduate from accredited school of nursing.
Experience: One - three years of general medical/surgical experience. Experience in CCU/ER/OB preferred.
Licensure: Current license in the State of Kansas.
Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within three (3) months of employment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required; must complete within three (3) months of employment. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required; must complete within one (1) year of employment.
Other: Verbal/written communication skills a! re necessary to understand patient's charts, doctors' orders, nursing care plan, and medication orders. Evidence of effective communication skills with physicians and other healthcare providers. Demonstratedleadership and sound decision making skills are required. This employee is educated and capable of performing patient care for all age groups -- pediatrics through geriatrics. Floats to all patient care areas. Employee works as a team member. Makes complex decisions surrounding patient care. Handles confidential information regarding patients and records. Employee provides supervision in the absence of the Inpatient Director. Demonstrated ability to get work done by working effectively with others is imperative. The ability to be self motivated, flexible, and objective is required in performing this job.
