Collects blood and other patient specimens. Schedules and advises patients for special laboratory tests
and procedures. Distributes laboratory! reports.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs venipuncture, arterial and capillary punctuares on patients. Identifies and labels
specimens. Collects throat culture specimens.
Delivers laboratory reports to physicians and nurses.
Performs related work as required.
Inventories supplies adn re-stocks laboratory stations.
Obtains blood specimens at nursing homes or other facilities.
Expectations:
1. Maintain professional and friendly atmosphere for patients and co-workers.
2. Abide by all clinic safety policies.
3. Achieve competence in both venipuncture procedures for both pediatric and adult patients.
4. Maintains patient confidentialty.
5. Properly follows procedures to confirm patient identity.
6. Able to efficiently deliver specimens to main lab and understands importance of speciment
integrity.
7. Properly labels all specimens collected.
8. Abide by Clinic policies and guid! elines.
Knowledge and Skills:Experience:
The job can be learned in hours or days or weeks.
Education:
Equivalent to a high school education.
Interpersonal Skills:
Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal
contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters
for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion.
Other Skills:
Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 lbs.
