The City of Independence will accept applications at the Kansas Job Service Center, 200 Arco Place, Independence, KS 67301, for a MICT/FF! I for the Fire/EMS Department. This is a full time position.
Description of Work : Under supervision, responds to fire, EMS, and other emergency calls to protect life and property; test and maintains pumping engines, aerial ladder trucks, hoses, and similar fire protection equipment, participates in fire prevention, station maintenance, and training activities; performs cleanup and overhaul work after a fire; rescues persons at the scene of a fire or other emergencies and has knowledge of the technical and operating principles of an ambulance and its related equipment. Knowledge of the standard of care in the Advanced Life Support care of pre-hospital patient, ill or injured. Knowledge or rescue techniques, knowledge of local, state and statutory regulations and protocols. Ability to operate all equipment within the scope of practice of a Paramedic, and appropriately instruct others. The ability to establish IVs, advanced airways, monitor and read EKG strips! , administers appropriate medications and other duties as medi! cal protocols allow. The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public. Strong physical endurance and agility. The ability to exercise sound judgment under adverse situations. Perform inspections of buildings and help develop pre-fire plans; respond to major alarms while off duty; performs related duties as assigned by the department.
Qualifications : Ability to meet standards established by the appointing authority; knowledge of elementary physics, chemistry, and mechanics; ability to learn technical firefighting principles and techniques; ability to learn to operate and maintain fire equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with fellow employees and the public; ability to keep simple records and prepare reports; mechanical aptitude; physical endurance and agility. Knowledge of technical and operating principle! s of an ambulance and its related equipment. Knowledge of the standard of care in the pre-hospital patient, ill or injured. Advanced knowledge of rescue regarding EMS and Paramedic scope of practice. Paramedic will provide excellent documentation in all medical records and reports. Will foster and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, adjunct health care providers and citizens. Strong physical endurance and agility required. Skills include airway management, BLS, ALS, ECG monitoring, defibrillation (peripheral and central lines), IOs, ventilators, CPAP, Bi-pap, trauma, psychiatric, pediatric, and neonatal management. The ability to exercise sound judgment under adverse situations.
Experience and Training : High School diploma or GED equivalent. Successful completion of a Kansas Board of EMS approved paramedic course, or eligible reciprocity. Successful completion of Firefighter 1 and Hazmat awareness preferred
Special Re! quirements : Must possess a valid driverâs license, with a reputa! ble driving record. Must be a Kansas Certified Paramedic holding a valid certificate, or eligible reciprocity ACLS certification must be held. Must reside within the boundaries established for emergency personnel within six months of employment. The boundaries are from County Road (C.R.) 3000 north to C.R. 6200 and from C.R. 2700 east to C.R. 5700. A boundary map is available in the City Clerkâs Office, Fire Department, or Police Department. NOTE: All applicants may be required to complete testing at Kansas Works. Final applicants will submit to a drug screening prior to awarding of job.
SALARY RANGE: The starting salary for this position is $675.05 per 56 hour work week.
