It is common for physicians who practice in this community to have earnings potentials well over the national average. With the case mix available in this type of demographic, it is not infrequent for physicians to earn two to three times the national average of comparably trained physicians and still be able to take up to 8-10 weeks off per year for meetings, family, travel, or other personal pursuits. Almost no managed care.
Comprehensive/Cataract needed for established practice. Nationwide there is an average population of 15,000 to 16,000 per ophthalmologist; here there is a population of 60-65,000 per ophthalmologist. Fellowship Trained Ophthalmologists also needed for management of Glaucoma , Cornea , Retina/Vitreous , Refractive Surgery , Oculoplastics/Orbit , Neuro , Pediatric Ophthalmology . You may choose to practice only within your subspecialty or combine with comprehensive ophthalmology and still draw from the larger goegraphic po! pulation of 400,000 for each new subspecialty added to the pat! ient population.
This community has a strong growing economy, great for raising a family, with excellent public and private schools, several colleges and universities, arts and cultural activities, sports, recreational programs, and year-round entertainment, events and attractions. We are within easy driving distance of major metropolitan areas, yet have a much more favorable supply and demand environment for ophthalmologists. The Rocky Mountains are within driving distance and offer a full spectrum of recreation and adventure year round for the entire family including Ophthalmology CME meetings during ski season! In the short term the community needs at least one experienced recruit now. We have been told by several training programs that the turnover rate of graduating resi! dents and fellows is about 50% during the first few years in practice; so the chances are rather high that some of your more senior colleagues-in-training, now in practice for several years, may be interested or know someone available now for one of these positions.
