  • Work experience in radiation safety and/or operational Health Physics, 40hr Certification as Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)
  • Past designation as RSO, Assistant RSO, or Authorized User on an NRC or Agreement State radioactive material license
  • National Registry of Radiation Protection Technicians (NRRPT)
  • Leadership experience
  • Strong problem identification and resolution skills
  • Demonstrated strong business and/or technical expertise in a related capacity
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with all levels of staff and management
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to coordinate, direct and monitor work team(s)

As a Manager, Radiation Protection/Radiation Safety Officer in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Installed Base Business Unit. Your work will include:

  • In accordance with the Mount Athos Road Radioactive Material License, the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) is responsible for the radiation protection program, including personnel monitoring, contamination control, calibration of equipment and effluent monitoring programs. The RSO has also responsibility for the radiological compliance of nuclear material shipments, per national and international regulatory standards. The RSO is responsible for the supervision, qualification, and training of the Radiation Protection and ALARA Technicians. This position ensures that work involving nuclear material is performed to federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Scope of work typically includes planning and scheduling work, supervising workflow and adherence to budget. Responsible for reviewing and writing regulatory documents, and procedures.
  • Ensures personal and workplace compliance with company and regulatory agency policies that protect employee, public health and safety
  • Updates and ensures compliance of nuclear safety related programs with site license and regulatory requirements. Serves as the technical expert and is the company representative with nuclear safety regulatory authorities (Va. Dept of Health Radioactive material, DOT, etc.)
  • Provides leadership in radiation safety policy and procedure development
  • Provides technical direction and advice to the HPs and ALARA Technicians
  • Works interactively with leadership, subordinates, customers, and regulators to develop strong relationships.
  • Monitors goals, objectives, and standards of performance for assigned team members.

Your Total Rewards Package

The range of base salary for the position is between $106,000 - $143,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
