This position is located at Munson Army Health Center, Department of Surgery, Ft Leavenworth KS You will serve as a Nurse Anesthetist for a broad range of surgery, including the most complex performed at Munson Army Health Center (MAHC). In this capacity, you will also participates as a member of the Anesthesia Service's Audit Committee participating in the review and improvement of patient care processes related to anesthesia; and, as an educator and anesthesia expert providing knowledge and teaching skills to other health care professionals and paraprofessionals. DUTIES:
You will provide regional anesthesia for postoperative pain management. You will anesthetizes patients for a broad range of surgery extending from the simplest to the most complex of surgical procedures. You will evaluate patient's physical and mental status with respect to anesthesia, consulting with a physician, if necessary, to evaluate patient's condition and desired anesthetic course of action. You will determine appropriate techniques, drugs, and equipment for use in the administration of anesthesia to all patients undergoing any and all forms of surgical and/or diagnostic procedures. You will administer anesthesia by inhalation, endotracheal intubation, intravenous, hypobaric and hyperbaric subarachnoid block, axillary block, intravenous block, transtracheal and superior laryngeal block, local infiltration, and topical application. You will determine the need for and administer parental fluids, including blood, and plasma. You will perform invasive monitoring techniques and interpret the information obtained through the use of these monitors. You will observe the patient during surgery for signs to accomplish and maintain the proper stage of anesthesia and to prevent overdose. You will give immediate postanesthetic care to patients. You will provide clinical instruction to nursing students, interns and residents rotating through Anesthesia, and for other students learning venipuncture and airway management. You will participate and cooperate with the anesthesia quality assurance committee to maintain and/or improve quality of care within the Department of Anesthesia. Surgical patient poplulations include pediatric, adult and geriatric.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree: Applicants MUST be a Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant; and Masters degree from an academic program, within the nursing specialty field of study, that is accredited by a regional or national nursing accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education. Licensure: Applicants MUST possess and maintain a current, valid, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license from a US jurisdiction, and must be licensed to the advanced practice level in accordance with the US jurisdiction requirements of their currently held RN license. Certification: Certification as a Nurse Anesthetist by a nationally recognized nures credentialing organization is a requirement for employment. Specialized Experience: Applicants MUST clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess one (1) year of specialized experience to the next lower level (GS-11), as a APRN, requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience which involves administrating anesthesia to ensure a professional working knowledge of anesthesia nursing practices and procedures including techniques of physical and emotional assessment, implementation of care and evaluation of results; preparing reports regarding the use and effects of new drugs and agents; experience conducting and managing anesthesia for a broad range of complex surgical procedures and patients with multiple disease processes; understanding of operating room methods, procedures and equipment.

Personnel security investigation required. A medical examination is required prior to employment. Hepatitis B immunization is required (direct patient contact). This position is covered by the Drug Abuse Testing Program. Applicant drug testing and random drug testing will be required. Mandatory seasonal influenza vaccinations required annually. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. Direct Deposit of pay is required. One year trial/probationary period may be required. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. If selected, official college or university transcripts must be submitted. If selected, candidate must provide documents for credentialing. Must obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and Certification.
