Position Summary:
Monitors cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac screen or telemetry monitors. Transcribes physician orders from records and enters orders accurately into the computer. Provides clerical support to the critical care staff and other members of the healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Provides accurate and timely interpretation and dissemination of information to critical care staff members and other members of the health care team related to patientâs cardiac rhythms as per cardiac monitoring.
Monitors heart rhythm patterns of patients to detect abnormal pattern variances.
Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern, and prior variances.
Continuously observes e! lectrocardiographs, documents interpretation at prescribed int! ervals and in the event of dysrhythmias or rhythm changes.
Detects and notifies RN and/or other appropriate personnel immediately in the event of life-threatening dysrhythmias.
Provides clerical support to critical care staff and other members of the healthcare team.
Promotes and supports all Via Christi Health standards of quality customer service.
Promotes continuous quality improvement in operations and in job performance.
May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education and/or Experience
Prior Experience with Cardiac Monitoring and/or successful completion of rhythm interpretation course and successful completion of a competency exam required within 3 months post date of hire. (N/A VCH-P)
One year acute care, medical/surgical, or pediatric healthcare experience preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent required upon date of hire.
Post-sec! ondary education preferred.

Technical Skills
Knowledge of medical terminology, computer skills and ability to accurately interpret cardiac monitor rhythms necessary.
Working knowledge of basic computer systems in order to complete data entry required.
Basi! c working email knowledge required.
Ability to navigate the in! ternet and Via Christi intranet required.
Ability to use multiple forms of communication devices such as telephones, paging systems, portable data devices.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Kansas CNA Certification, or successfully completed an approved nursing program or a Kansas EMS certification required. (VCH-P Only)
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers offered by the American Heart Association or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer offered by the Red Cross within 30 days post date of hire.
Successful completion of competency exam required 30 days post date of hire and annually. (N/A VCH-P)

Constantly able to use hands and fingers to perform simple and fine motor handling tasks, such as pinching and ! manipulating while handling intricate medical equipment, writing, typin! g, and using a keyboard.
Constantly able to use different types of visual perceptions to perform activities such as moving medical equipment, evaluating patients, reading monitors and charts, and reading computer screens.
Occasionally required to detect unusual odors that could indicate infection or other problems with a patient, or environmental issues such as smoke.
Working Conditions:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of radiation.
Position Scope/Patient Population:
Specific scope of care and patient populations are identified in the Unit Specific Structure Standards.
May encounter patients and visitors ranging from newborn to geriatric ages.
