Job Title: : PATIENT CARE CLERICAL TECHNICIAN I Job Code : 25258 Shift : 8 Hour Night Shift Employment Status : Part-! Time Average Hours per Week : 24 Category : Patient/Resident Care Support JOB DESCRIPTION: Position Summary: This position assists in performing delegated patient related clerical activities; including health unit coordinator functions, monitor technician, and general clerical duties. Also, assists in performing delegated resident/patient care activities; including activities of daily living and basic nursing care procedures, as well as identified competencies required in the assigned resident/patient care unit. Performs duties and presents oneself in a manner that would lead to high levels of resident/patient satisfaction. This position can be divided into two positions depending upon the number of skill sets acquired.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Health Unit Coordination specific duties include: Performs receptionist duties, maintains inventory of designated supplies and utilizes computer extensivel! y. Responsible for initiating and maintaining unit and medical! records.. Responds promptly to all individuals seeking information.
Keeps nurse in charge updated regarding unit activity, problems or complaints. Performs clerical duties to assist the health team in providing quality patient care. ECG Monitoring specific duties include: Monitors heart rhythm patterns of patients to detect abnormal pattern variances. Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern, and prior variances.
Continuously observes electrocardiographs, documents interpretation at prescribed intervals and in the event of dysrhythmias or rhythm changes. Detects and notifies RN and/or other appropriate personnel immediately in the event of life-threatening dysrhythmias. EEG Monitoring specific duties include (N/A at VCH-P): Monitors Long-term Video EEG monitoring of multiple patients at a time. Recognizes documents and eliminates artifacts and implements alternative methods or adjusts controls to obtain optimal! recording (including appropriate setting changes, extra montages).
Keeps equipment clean and in working order, troubleshoots equipment problems and monitors and stocks supplies. Has knowledge of appropriate action to take during patient emergency situations, insures patient safety at all times and is knowledgeable of basic infection control standards relating to patient and equipment. Has a good working knowledge of digital EEG system and can delete, restore, archive and retrieve data from permanent storage. Recognize clinical and electrographic changes and can recognize and document unusual and abnormal EEG activity.
Enters procedure charges and ensures accuracy. May perform other duties as assigned or requested Level 1 position requires experience in one of the above areas. Level 2 position requires that an employee must be able to demonstrate the skills necessary to conduct ECG Monitoring within 6 weeks from the date of hire. (VCH-P only) Additional Re! sponsibilities/Essential Functions for VCH-P Only: Participates in routi! ne activities of resident/patient care for the specific unit population of assigned area.
Performs delegated resident/patient care tasks in a timely and efficient manner, and under the guidance of a Registered Nurse/LPN. Contributes to continuity of care and effective communication by reporting care provided and changes in the resident/patient's condition to the primary nurse or designee in a timely manner. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications: Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. One to three months related experience and/or training preferred.

Technical Skills Working knowledge of basic computer systems in order to complete data entry required. Basic working email knowled! ge required. Ability to use multiple forms of communication devices such as telephones, paging systems, portable data devices. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers offered by the American Heart Association, BLS for Healthcare Provider offered by the Military Training Network (MTN),or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer offered by the Red Cross within 30 days post date of hire. Kansas C.N.A. certification, or successfully completed an approved nursing program or a Kansas EMS certification required.

Occasionally required to assist in maneuvering patients weighing 100-400 pounds and infrequently required to assist in maneuvering patients weighing over 400 pounds. Tolerate standing and walking for up to 6 hours at a time on hard and soft surfaces.
Occasionally perform activities that require stooping, bending and reaching, squatting, balancing, and trunk twisting throughout the day. Constantly able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form. Frequently required to sit in a stationary position for up to 2 hours at one time. Frequently able to detec! t and discern both loud and soft sounds such as phone calls, pagers, voices of employees/customers, and monitors/alarms.
Frequently able to use hands and fingers to perform simple and fine motor handling tasks, such as pinching and manipulating while handling intricate medical equipment, writing, typing, and using a keyboard. Frequently able to use different types of visual perceptions to perform activities such as moving medical equipment, evaluating patients, reading monitors and charts, and reading computer screens. Occasionally required to detect unusual odors that could indicate infection or other problems with a patient, or environmental issues such as smoke. Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of radiation.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Position Scope/Patient Popula! tion: May encounter patients and visitors ranging from newborn to geria! tric ages. Ages of patient population are dependent upon the work setting, but could include Pediatric (2-12), Adolescent (13-18), Adult (19-64), and Geriatric (65 and over).
