Position Summary:
Uses an interdepartmental approach to perform tasks in an effort to provide customer centric care. Performs ultrasound studies according to established protocols or physicians' special instructions. Communicates effectively with staff, physicians, patients and their families. Provides for the physical and psychological needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients during the study. Maintains accurate patient and department records. Follows all policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Performs studies accurately and efficiently in an effort to meet established turn-around times. Prepares reports for physician interpretation and ensures quality images are available for interpreting physician and are labeled correctly with patient identification and other information to make an accurate diagnosis.
Provides age appropriate care, anticipates patient/family needs, comfort and safety and assists with exceeding customer expectations.
Assists with staff and student training and in-services as requested.
Maintains accurate records.
Performs clerical duties as assigned using the computer programs as a tool.
Participates with patient transportation.
Participates with performance improvement activities, and problem solving and cost containment efforts.
Assists with regulatory/accrediting agencies to insure departmental compliance.
Performs department surveys and quality control on equipment and reports variances for service.
If the department requires call coverage, the employee will respond to call backs in a professional manner and will be available within 30 minutes.
May perform other duties as assigned or requested

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from approved Ultrasound Program required.

Technical Skills
Needs to have a basic understanding and comfort level working with computers and multi tasking.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers offered by the American Heart Association or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer offered by the Red Cross received at time of hire.
Must be registry eligible in RDMS. Must have RDMS in Abdominal or OB/GYN within 12 months of employment (if working in Imaging).
For level 2: RDMS registered in Abdominal or OB/GYN required, both registries would be optimal.
For level 3: RVT or RDCS. RVT registry is required for imaging services. RDCS registry for cardiology services.
For level 4: Employees who are both RVT and RDCS registered and are actively performing studies for both.
RVT required within 12 months of employment and RDCS required within 18 months of employment.

Frequently able to use different types of visual perceptions for evaluating patients, reading patient and product identifiers, and reading computer screens.
Frequently perform activities that require stooping, bending and reaching, squatting, balancing, and trunk twisting throughout the day.
Constantly able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form.
Frequently able to detect and discern both loud and soft sounds such as patient calls, verbal orders, monitors, and phone calls.
Occasionally required to detect unusual odors that could indicate infection or other problems with a patient, or environmental issues such as smoke.
