Today, Via Christi Health is the largest provider of health care services in Kansas.Position Summary: A member of the professional staff who possesses the advanced knowledge and clinical skills in Neuroscience to provide expert direct and indirect nursing care. The ARNP is a registered professional nurse who demonstrates expertise in a specific area of clinical nursing of Neurology patients. The ARNP acts as a leader, innovator and change agent in pursuit of improved nursing practice and patient outcomes.

Ensures quality of care, high patient satisfaction and fiscal responsibility. Coordinates care based on policies, procedures, standards and regulatory bodies. Plans effective use of staff and physical resources and promotes cost savings/effectiveness. Provides leadership to and may have responsibility for unit/medical center committees, QA/QI, clinical pathways, staffing and educational activities.

Is proactive and demonstrates confidence, credibility, adaptability, initiative, innovation, problem solving and risk taking. Supports the goals and mission of Via Christi Regional Medical Center. Essential Functions: Other duties may be assigned. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the job.

Case manages for specific patient population including, but not limited to, Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), and Epilepsy Care. Coordinates care of innovative specialized therapies. Provides care for inpatients and at outpatient clinics at VCRMC-SF Campus, as well as coordinates and conducts off campus epilepsy clinics. Provides on-call for patients and acts as a resource for physicians.

Collaborates with responsible physician to develop and routinely review authorized protocol for transmitting prescription orders. Transmitting prescription orders will be according to protocol requirements that have been reviewed by the ARNP and the responsible physician who has authorized the protocol. Implements strategies, interventions, and teaching to promote, maintain, and improve health of customers served. Requires knowledge of Medical Staff bylaws, rules and regulations.

Requires specific clinical privileges in application of independent judgment within professional competency in a collaborative relationship with referring physicians. Arranges patient admission for referring/collaborating physician. Completes admission history and physical. Dictates history and physical with referring physicians co-signing.

Writes progress notes and reports. Writes orders on Inpatients with referring physician co-signing. Orders Diagnostic studies for both Inpatient and Outpatients. Transmits prescriptions per Nurse Practice Act.

Performs specific procedures based on established protocol/guidelines, independently and appropriately bills for services. "Prescribes" medication dose changes. Programs stimulation perimeter on VNS . Attends surgical implantation of devices.

Collaborates with patients, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to plan and evaluate care. Provides patient education including discharge planning. Consults and coordinates care of patients with interdisciplinary team members. Provides continuing education programs and in-services utilizing principles of adult and pediatric learners.
